The Resource & Training Centre
The SLFUW has its own Resource and Training Centre at its Kithulwatte premises in Colombo which is now a popular venue for vibrant discussions. There have been many new societies and organizations hiring the auditorium and the board room for their meetings and most of those who have visited our headquarters have booked it more than once. The SLFUW also holds lectures and workshops on issues which are timely and relevant to University women, women in general and the for the entire society.
The Resource and Training Centre was ceremonially opened by Mr. Merrill Fernando and Rev Yutaka Okano of Shinnyo-en, the donors of this project on Saturday, 5th August 2006. Dr. Mrs. Selvi Perera and Mrs. Chintha Munasinghe were fundamental in obtaining donations from the donors. In addition to the financial contributions made by the members, SLFUW’s own professional expertise also came in handy during this project.
It has made a significant contribution to education and advancement of women and girls through its ongoing programme of workshops, Symposia Forum discussions and scholarships. The R and T centre for Women is an outstanding effort to reach out to the less privileged.
The Resource centre and the garden of the headquarters are ideally suited for a variety of functions and have a great potential. This facility is open for outside parties for corporate meetings, corporate functions, corporate trainings, conferences, seminars and workshops. The hiring charges for the board room and auditorium were increased in keeping with the increasing cost of utilities. The R&T Centre has brought in a substantial amount of revenue for the upkeep of the headquarters.
